Director, Pipeline Operations & Safety
The Director reports to the APGA Vice President, Operations & Safety (O&S), and will be groomed to succeed the Vice President who is responsible for APGA programs and services to promote the safe design, construction, operation and maintenance of member utilities’ natural gas piping systems.
The VP O&S is the primary contact for APGA member systems, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), other federal agencies, the press, and other interests concerning APGA policies and activities associated with pipeline safety.
The VP O&S works with the Operations & Safety Committee and other internal groups to develop a comprehensive strategy and approach to address issues related to the safe and efficient design, construction, operation and maintenance of natural gas piping systems; and continually strives to increase the involvement and awareness of APGA and its members in the operational safety arena. This position is the primary advisor to the APGA President & CEO on all the issues and matters described herein; and also serves as the Staff Executive to the Operations & Safety Committee, as well as other committees, subcommittees, task groups, and ad hoc groups as assigned by the President & CEO.
The VP O&S also serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the APGA Security and Integrity Foundation (SIF), a separate corporation that develops products and services to assist small operators to address safety and security issues.
The Director should be familiar with pipeline safety, operations and maintenance of natural gas utilities, distribution integrity management, and, be an effective communicator both in writing and through public speaking. A PE license would be a plus.
