Director, Strategic Planning

 

Job Purpose:

 

Responsible for driving the corporate strategic planning process; including, but not limited to: facilitating the development, roll-out, and measurement of success.  Lead integrated resource planning for electric and water, and participate in the evaluation of new energy resources.  Responsible for the annual update to OUC's strategic plan by facilitating Senior Staff's directional modifications to the strategic initiatives.  Ensure the presentation of strategic initiatives at the annual leadership meetings and all employee meetings are on point and clearly communicated.

 

Primary Functions:

 

  • Oversee the corporate strategic planning process; collaborate with senior leadership to identify, evaluate, and prioritize strategic initiatives; coordinate across business units to assess current capabilities and identify actions necessary to meet future opportunities;

  • Engaged in the evaluation of new distributed energy resources, micro-grid projects, and other new energy technologies or services;

  • Lead the integrated resource planning for electric and water; evaluate all supply and demand options, identify ways to minimize total costs, and create flexible plans to deal with variations in circumstances;

  • Evaluate OUC’s potential participation in joint investments and agreements with other utilities;

  • Oversee corporate business plan development projects and processes to support the planning, development, and implementation of new and enhanced products and services offered by OUC;

  • Facilitate strategic planning and decision making sessions with senior leadership and other management across business units;

  • Synthesize a wide variety of financial and operational data and metrics to make recommendations;

  • Define key metrics to track strategic initiatives leveraging balanced scorecard or other framework;

  • Communicate status and progress of related initiatives to senior leadership; develop reports and prepare presentations for a variety of audiences;

  • Serve as a member of the capital planning committee;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

   

Technical Requirements:

 

  • Working knowledge of all, but not limited to, the following:

 

o   Strategic planning

 

o   Corporate-level process improvement principles and methodologies

 

o   Business plan creation

 

o   Financial statements

 

o   Feasibility studies for corporate initiatives

 

o   How costs impact utility rates

 

o   Business plan development principles and methodologies

 

o   Related industry, organizational and departmental policies, practices, and procedures; legal guidelines, ordinances, and laws;

 

  • Familiarity with specifications for various types of power generation equipment

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;

  • Demonstrated ability to compile information from various sources and consolidate into strategic recommendations;

  • Lead teams and facilitate meetings;

  • Ability to manage a project from inception to implementation;

    Apply statistics in business plan development and analytical evaluations;

    Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and compute rates, ratios and percentages;

    Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.).

 

Education/ Certification/ Years of Experience Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or a related area of study from an accredited college or university;
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or a related area of study from an accredited college or university (preferred);
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience performing business planning and determining financial feasibility for corporate initiatives involving significant organizational impact, to include five (5) years of experience in managing projects and/or teams;

 

  • LEAN, Six Sigma Black Belt and/or project management (PMP) certified (preferred).
  • Utility industry experience (preferred).
