Power Engineer, Protection and Control – Associate, I, II, SR

JOB TITLE:  Power Engineer, Protection and Control – Associate, I, II, SR

FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work hours:  8am – 5pm, M-F with occasional call out               
Location:  NFM

Position Summary:

Design and coordinate protection and control systems for one or more of the following areas of responsibility: transmission, substation or distribution. Provide support for the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of protection and control systems. Perform post-fault event analysis. Develop and maintain standards and specifications. Work on project teams. Assist with NERC compliance.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain system models for short circuit analysis and coordination studies (Aspen OneLiner / CymeDIST).
  • Design detailed wiring diagrams for protection and control schemes.
  • Analyze protection coordination, perform protection calculations, and create relay protection and logic settings.
  • Prepare and maintain protection system specifications and standards in compliance with industry guidelines and good engineering practices.
  • Evaluate application of new protection equipment.
  • Maintain accurate protection system documentation (drawings, settings, and scheme descriptions).
  • Investigate protection system misoperations and develop corrective action plans.
  • Provide construction and commission testing support for protection and control projects.
  • Provide technical support to substation and relay technicians.
  • Coordinate protection and control projects: design, bill of materials, cost estimates, purchase requisitions, and schedule.
  • Participate on project teams for large scope projects such as new substation construction.
  • Perform and document tasks required to demonstrate compliance with NERC protection and control requirements.

Required and Desired Qualifications (by grade level):

Associate Engineer (ET5)

Required:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering (or AA in EET with 2 years’ experience).
  • Florida driver’s license or ability to obtain one upon employment

Desired:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3 years’ engineering experience.
  • 2 years’ experience in a power engineering profession.

Engineer I (ET6)

Required:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3 years’ engineering experience.
  • 2 years’ experience in a power engineering profession.
  • 1 year of experience in an E&O engineering role.
  • Florida driver’s license or ability to obtain one upon employment

Desired:

  • Masters’ degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Licensed professional engineer.

Engineer II (ET7)

Required:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering.
  • 7 years’ engineering experience.
  • 5 years’ experience in a power engineering profession.
  • 3 years’ experience in E&O engineering roles – multiple roles and rotations (i.e. reliability, protection)
  • Florida driver’s license or ability to obtain one upon employment

Desired:

  • Masters’ degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Licensed professional engineer.

Senior Engineer (ET8)

Required:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering.
  • 15 years’ engineering experience.
  • 10 years’ experience in a power engineering profession.
  • 7 years’ experience in E&O engineering roles – experience in at least (2) areas and qualified to fill in multiple functions.
  • Florida driver’s license or ability to obtain one upon employment

Desired:

  • Masters’ degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Licensed professional engineer.
  • Recognition in the profession as a specialist in the field (teaching, writing).
  • Experience in multiple areas of electrical engineering.
