Security Engineer

Summary of Responsibilities, Essential Duties & Expectations:

GEM is looking for a leader capable of working in a fast paced and highly dynamic environment to take on a major project for critical infrastructure programs and projects. This individual will be responsible for ensuring regulatory and contractual obligations are met in:

  • network engineering and implementation requirements
  • the design and implementation of security controls
  • the design and implementation of tools to monitor the network and security controls

The candidate is expected to:

  • Be familiar with the NERC CIP Reliability Standards and the programs required to support compliance obligations as they continue to evolve.
  • Be familiar with other regulatory frameworks for security controls that at minimum meet NERC CIP Reliability Standards and should be considered for implementation as best practices
  • Manage vendors and contractor resources impacting the network or data exchange
  • Manage training and/or staffing needs for network operation center support
  • Maintain a program for gathering and retaining evidence to show compliance with NERC CIP Reliability Standards
  • Provide support during audits by internal departments, governmental authorities or customers up to and including producing evidence

Qualifications (Experience, Competencies, Skills, Education):

This Position requires at minimum a bachelor’s degree in computer or electrical engineering, computer science or a related field or relevant work experience (ten or more years of relevant experience in security controls including change management systems). Qualified candidates must also have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, possess strong analytical, problem solving, presentation and negotiation skills.

There is a 12 month probationary period for this positions and Texas is an at-will employment state.
