Analyst Cyber Security

Job Brief

The Cyber Security Analyst will work in SRP's Security Operations Center (SOC) which is responsible for monitoring of, responding to, and mitigating cyber security events across the enterprise. This role will be responsible for supporting the Splunk Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) environment used by the operations team, assisting with cyber security event triage, and reviewing and improving SOC processes and procedures.

Candidates should have a strong understanding of Information Technology fundamentals with an awareness of cyber security defense technologies utilized in enterprise environments.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs cyber security tasks such as system administration, requirements definition, analysis, design, programming, testing, and implementation.
  • Applies standard processes/methods, practices and techniques.
  • Responsible for SRP's compliance with various federal and state regulations as well as industry compliance requirements.
  • Ensuring SRP's cyber security policies reflect current compliance standards (e.g. NIST, NERC CIP)
  • Monitors and analyzes network traffic to identify unusual activity patterns and to recognize malicious attacks


Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.


Promotion to level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to senior level requires a minimum of three-years of experience at level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead  responsibilities.

Experience Preferred

  • 5+ years of experience working in Information Technology and/or Information Security roles
  • 2+ years of experience administering a distributed Splunk environment (index clusters, search head clusters, universal and heavy forwarders, deployment server)
  • Experience with installing and configuring Splunk Apps
  • Experience managing Linux servers (CentOS or RedHat)
  • Experience with Python and shell scripting
  • Experience with Splunk App for Enterprise Security a plus
  • Strong desire to develop both Splunk and Cyber Security skills


Additional Information

Work schedule is flexible but primary coverage required during daytime business hours. Role requires participation in department on-call rotation which involves responding to emergency callout during non-business hours, as needed. Travel occasionally required for industry training and conferences that cannot be found locally.

The following certifications would be a plus:

  • Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin
  • Splunk Enterprise Certified Architect
  • Cyber Security related certifications (Security+, CISSP, etc.)
