Analyst - Solar Energy Assessment

Do you want to come help lead the advancement and adoption of solar energy with an industry leader? The solar industry is rapidly growing and we’re looking for an analytical leader to help our clients keep pace with the rapid expansion of solar energy!


DNV GL – Energy's Energy Assessment Team is seeking a Solar Energy Analyst. The primary function of this position is to assess the solar resource and expected energy output of proposed or operational solar projects across North America.

This position may be based in any of our Renewables Advisory offices in North America. Preferred locations are Oak Brook, IL; San Diego, CA; or Oakland, CA.

Tasks May Include

  • Conduct long-term resource and energy production assessments
  • Analyzing climatic data and operational production and performance data from solar plants
  • Inspecting sites and measurement equipment
  • Assessing site conditions for technology suitability
  • Predicting energy production
  • Conducting statistical uncertainty analyses
  • Writing technical reports and communicating results to clients
Position Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering, atmospheric science, or quantitative field required
    • Master’s degree preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience in solar resource assessment and/or modeling required
    • Familiarity with PVSyst required
    • Understanding of solar energy project execution and finance required
    • Understanding of solar resource variability and its impact on energy estimates preferred
    • Understanding of solar Measure Corelate and Predict (MCP) analysis preferred
    • Proficiency working with data analysis tools (Python, R, SQL, MATLAB, etc.) preferred
    • Previous experience as a renewable energy consultant preferred
    • Understanding of renewable energy industry measurement techniques and standards preferred
  • Proficient working with Word and Excel
  • Experience in uncertainty and statistical data analysis required
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time and to approach tasks with a Customer-centric mindset
    • This is a seller-doer role, which requires both technical rigor and commercial acumen
  • Willingness and ability to travel, up to 10% of the time
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
    • Ability to write technical reports and commercial correspondence to verbally convey information in a clear and concise manner
