Business Technology Analyst

The Business Analyst provides analytical support to assigned business units by applying business and information technology solutions to a broad range of business unit processes and applications.  The Analyst develops strong relationships across internal teams to effectively elicit business needs, design intuitive solutions and translate them into straightforward functional requirements. The Business Analyst helps drive the design and deployment of efficient application enhancements supporting core organizational functions and business processes. This includes gathering and analyzing data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and systems requirements. The Analyst is also responsible for troubleshooting process and systems issues and to identify root causes and recommend potential solutions.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Work with decision makers, application owners, and end users to define business and operations requirements, application goals, and identify and resolve issues.
Map “As-Is” and “To-Be” Business Processes
Analyze the efficiency and effectiveness of existing processes and tools and lead design sessions to prototype changes for optimizing business processes, operations, and information flow.
Prepare and deliver reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas within business area applications.
Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed changes to aid management in making decisions.
Create models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to programmers/developers.
Work with test lead in coordination of testing and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new applications, and other post-implementation support. 
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience developing and supporting information or business technology systems related to the business unit being supported.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with business requirements gathering and process mapping
  • Experience working on project teams during all phases of the project lifecycle
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation and keen attention to detail.
  • Hands on experience with SAP or other ERP system(s)
  • Hands on experience analyzing data and making recommendations based on findings
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
Knowledge of:
Principles and concepts of data management; specialized business unit work processes and fundamentals; concepts of IT system applications, including desktop, client-server and mainframe environments; centralized and distributed concepts; analytical methods and research techniques; methods and techniques of troubleshooting and problem resolution; principles of project planning and scheduling; system development life cycles; business system design methods and techniques; methods and techniques of application development and integration; database design theory and implementation; principles of data retrieval and reporting; information processing hardware, software, and data communications; pertinent SMUD and departmental policies, procedures, and standards; office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Skill to:
Write functional design specifications, policy and reports documentation; conduct feasibility studies; provide effective consultation to users/clients; apply analytical thinking to resolve business and IT application problems; develop, test, and implement IT applications; learn new and existing IT technologies, tools and methods to support and develop business applications; translate technical terminology into non-technical terms; work independently or in a team atmosphere to develop and support IT business applications; manage and organize workload on several projects simultaneously; prepare reports and make presentations; communicate effectively orally and in writing internally/externally; establish and maintain effective working relationships internally/externally.
High school diploma or equivalent.
 Desirable Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree
Experience with SAP PM Module
Experience with the implementation of a scheduling or mobile solution
Hands-on experience as a business analyst on a business re-engineering initiative
Experience with data analysis and modeling
Lean / Six Sigma experience
Experience working with Agile methodology/ working on an Agile team
