Commodity & Energy Specialist


Commodity and Energy specialists are team members who may bring with them multiple capabilities and/or subject matter expertise in energy and/or commodity areas. They are the individual contributors on teams working on deliverables/duties that may include project management process improvement, process development, and process execution.    


Ensure effective management of energy suppliers with new and/or existing facilities.  Manage key supplier performance resulting in the development and maintenance of selected suppliers. Develop supply management through supplier research programs.

Analyze energy market trends and participate in forward purchase decision making process with other key energy management team members.

Participate in evaluations of prospective distributed generation opportunities

Responsible to develop, lead or provide support as assigned in process execution or project assignment delivery. In addition, this level would take a larger role in directing the work of other. 

Work assignments may be specialized in nature but may also be broad based with coordination between other staff personnel to complete a larger project.  This role also takes a leadership role in coordination and collaboration events and meetings.

Directs the collection and analysis of data, works with team members to resolve errors, explains changes and recommends actions to resolve problems.  Provides advanced analysis and recommendations needed to increase accuracy and execution velocity to be successful in implementing projects on time, with in cost, and meeting targets.

Creates and presents to leader’s project status and/or operational performance level information. Develops and manages feedback loops and corresponding action plans (to include learning, communication and reinforcement systems).

Participates in and/or leads team meetings or projects and is prepared to provide information to ensure meetings are timely, efficient, and follow agenda.  Works with leader to ensure outcomes are consistent with goals.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Engineering or Supply Chain
  • 8+ years of previous work experience in such fields as purchasing, accounting, finance, economics, Treasury, supply chain, project development or engineering is required.
  • Prior supply management experience with electric and gas contracts including commodity market analysis and/or commodity risk management strategy development and execution  

 Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Business, or Energy Industry Certification such as: CFA, CMA, CEM, or PE
  • Power Systems experience
  • Experience in regulatory and legislative analysis and intervention.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience with successful projects is desired.
  •  Must have strong oral and written communication skills, good analytical, organizational and presentation skills. 
  • Must be a self-starter, team player and have the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
