Job Description:

The Opportunity

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a professional, innovative and detailed individual for our Compliance Engineer position. If you are looking for an opportunity to lead in the effort to ensure SEL products, processes, and facilities comply with applicable industry safety and environmental standards then this position is for you!

This position will be located in Pullman, Washington.

Compliance Engineer – Safety


  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the assigned compliance area (e.g., EMC, Safety, Product Ecology) standards, requirements and solutions.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of SEL products and markets.
  • Analyze compliance standards and develop associated tests, guidelines, procedures and reports.
  • Provide technical assistance to product groups.
  • Ensure test documentation is complete and filed in accordance with A2LA and quality system requirements.
  • Mentor Associate Engineers and Technicians.
  • Continuously identify, measure, and improve processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or other appropriate engineering discipline or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2 years working knowledge of compliance engineering practices and philosophies
  • Working knowledge of compliance engineering at an electronics development and manufacturing company
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following compliance areas including standards, requirements and solutions:
  • EMC (FCC, IC, CE)
  • Safety standards (UL, CSA, CE)
  • Radio
  • Leadership experience or training
