Data Strategist

The Data Strategist works closely with senior stakeholders to understand their data, design the ingestion process to store the data, and prepare it for Data Analytics. The role works to ensure enterprise data is leveraged and effectively utilized to align, support, and promote business requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Define data lifecycle, including data models and data sources for analytics platform. Work closely with database teams on data requirements, cleanliness, accuracy, etc.
  • Work with Data Analytics Consultant to insure that data needed to develop analytics is available and sustainable for users of final analytics product
  • Collaborate with IT on the selection, design, development and integration of physical data storage for the organization. Ensure appropriate maintenance, security, integrity and access to all corporate data
  • Interface with data governance lead to insure that data maintained is in best possible form
  • Develop the Analytics organization’s input to the data strategy.  Identify and partner with IT to execute enhancements to the data and technology infrastructure that unlock business value through associated analytics use cases


Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university in finance, mathematics, economics, statistics or related field required.  Master's degree from an accredited college/university and/or Certifications in math, statistics, data management, or other quantitative discipline preferred. Five or more years of data management or analytics experience required. Three or more years of project or people management experience preferred.

Other minimum qualifications include:

  • Business-unit facing project experience, including working in close-knit teams
  • Data security & governance expertise
  • Strong experience in traditional data warehousing / ETL tools (Informatica, DataStage)
  • Experience and interest in Big Data technologies (Hadoop / Spark / NoSQL DBS) and Cloud (AWS and Azure)
  • Strong SQL experience, and optional Python / Scala / Java / R

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Motivated, engaged, organized self-starter with strong business knowledge and technical skills; Ability to exercise a high level of independent judgement, decision-making, accuracy, creativity, and initiative; Exposure to continuous improvement and/or agile project development methodologies preferred; Exposure to full software development lifecycle preferred; Experience establishing and maintaining an enterprise business glossary preferred; Strong verbal, presentation, and writing skills; Effective conflict resolution and negotiation skills; and the following Ameren competencies: Think Customer, Inspire and Engage, Foster Innovation, Drive Results, Champion Learning, Build Trust, and Be Strategic.
