Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a well-qualified Design Engineer in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a comparable discipline to support research and engineering activities in the Pyrochemistry and Molten Salt Systems Department. This engineer will work with systems for the handling, management, processing, and/or disposition of spent nuclear fuels. Experience with design, fabrication, and testing of this type of equipment is preferred. Experience with metallic sodium, molten salt, high temperature systems, glovebox-installed equipment, and nuclear facility operations is expected. The engineer will work with program customers to design, fabricate, test, and operate systems for spent fuel disposition.
The engineer is expected to be a strong asset to our interdisciplinary research and engineering team and work effectively both alone and as a team member. They must be self-motivated but also comfortable working in a team environment.
The engineer is expected to develop and maintain business opportunities for the department. This is done by building and maintaining professional relationships with programmatic sponsors, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with other research departments and organizations.
Preferred RequirementsExperience with design, fabrication, and testing of spent nuclear fuel handling and disposition equipment is preferred.
