Engineer – Power System Advisory

Local Unit & Position Description

DNV GL – Energy’s Power System Planning (PSP) Group is seeking an Engineer – Power System Advisory. The focus of this group is to provide creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission and distribution systems including ISOs/RTOs, power utilities, developers, asset owners and operators as well as investors. This position is based out of Dallas, TX office.


Tasks May Include

  • Performing NERC/FERC or regional compliance studies including load/generation interconnection, steady state, short circuit, transient stability and/or EMT studies
  • Performing economic planning studies including production cost analysis, price farecasting and benefit to cost assessments
  • Identifying unique reliability based and/or economic based solutions in various regions such as MISO, PJM, SPP, ERCOT, CAISO and NYISO footprints
  • Develop project deliverables including presentations, reports and proposals to be presented to the internal and/or external clients
  • Assist with the team’s research goals in development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to improve the team’s performance and/or create new services
Position Qualifications

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required
    • An emphasis on Electric Power Systems preferred
    • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Electric Power Systems preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in power system planning and/or energy economic field (internships and relevant research experience will be considered) required
  • Knowledge of RTO/ISO markets, power system planning practices and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Basic knowledge of electricity markets
  • Knowledge of one of the following automation scripts: VB,, Python
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening

Preferred Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in transmission planning preferably in a utility, power trading, renewable energy company or consulting setting
  • 1+ years of experience in energy production cost and basis risk analysis
  • Knowledge of Financial Transmission Right (FTR), Congestion Revenue Rights (CRR) and similar financial hedging instruments in various energy markets
  • 1+ years of experience in power system reliability analysis including transient stability and EMT domain analysis in a utility or consulting environment
