Facilities Mechanical Engineer

About The Position

 The mechanical Engineer is a member of Facilities Management and Construction Team. This team builds, renovates, and maintains all of Ameren's offices and operating centers throughout Missouri and Illinois.  This role will primarily be managing and executing HVAC specific projects and act as the subject matter expert in supporting the Operations Team that maintains the systems.  


Key responsibilities include:

  • Be accountable for design standards, design review, technical support, capital asset management, project management, estimating, budgeting, bidding, project execution, and total cost ownership analysis of mechanical building systems in the areas of HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, and building automation.
  • Provide or manage third party vendors for engineering design and documentation for mechanical projects.
  • Provide engineering evaluations and reviews of project plans, drawings, and specifications prepared by outside consultants for conformance to Ameren standards, specifications, policies, applicable codes, regulatory, environmental, and safety requirements.
  • Work as a team member on other projects as required.
  • Provide technical support for maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical system equipment.
  • Provide estimates and budgeting for current and future year projects.  Use capital asset management software to evaluate and prioritize five year project list based on need and available budget. 
  • Assure that contractors are satisfying requirements and are in compliance in regards to scheduling, cost tracking, material deliveries, subcontractor activities, specifications, drawings, job instructions, job working rules, lockout tagout (LOTO), safety procedures (OSHA), environmental regulations, and Ameren procedures and policies. 



Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university required. Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in the State of Missouri and/or Illinois is preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.  Ability to obtain PMP is required within 12 months of employment.  

Five or more years' experience in commercial building HVAC, plumbing, piping, mechanical system design, and building automation required. 


In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Must be able to work with contractors on multiple, complex projects, and work effectively with conflicting priorities and stressful situations in a team-oriented environment.  Excellent oral and written communication skills, computer skills, good leadership, decision making, and human relations skills required. Knowledge of OSHA, safety and environmental requirements also required. Travel will be required between various Ameren locations in Illinois and Missouri.
