The Opportunity

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a motivated, results oriented and detailed professional for our Hardware Engineering Technician position. If you are looking for an opportunity to work in a technical customer relations environment where you will be troubleshooting down to a component level and working with a variety of products in an ever-changing manufacturing facility, then this position is for you!

This position is located at SEL’s newest, state of the art manufacturing facility in Lewiston, ID where you'll enjoy an unmatched quality of life. Hardware Engineering Technician


  • Test, repair, convert, and troubleshoot problems of moderate complexity to the component level on SEL products.
  • Provide product technical support to SEL staff and customers.
  • Provide support to engineering staff and management as needed.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge in SEL processes and products in order to ensure product quality and integrity.
  • Continuously identify, measure, follow, and improve SEL service related processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • 2 year electronic engineering technology degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 2-5 years experience providing technical service and/or engineering support in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Intermediate working knowledge of analog and digital electronics and basic microprocessor knowledge
  • Good technical writing and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical, judgment, and organization skills
  • Willing to travel up to 10%
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading process improvement or analysis teams
  • Electronic troubleshooting experience
  • Technical training and presentation skills
  • Practical knowledge of power systems
