JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY:

Assists with the preparation of all consolidated internal and external financial statements such as Earnings Release data, Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) filings, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) filings, Department of Labor (DOL) plan financial statement filings, and management and board financial data. Primarily responsible for technical analysis of complex accounting matters as required by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) requirements, and SEC and FERC requirements, including the preparation of corporate positions related to new and unusual technical accounting pronouncements or other complex financial transactions. Acts as a liaison with external parties to promote the corporate position on technical accounting issues. Coordinates reporting and GAAP issues with external auditors and senior management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for supporting all SEC reporting; helps coordinate filing deadlines and supports processes including such as quarter due diligence processes, contract review, and other SOX control requirements

Oversees and directly manages the preparation PNMR and its subsidiary registrants internal and external financial reports

Manages all internal financial statements from the corporate general ledger system

Ensures statements are accurate and that internal reports meet the needs of senior management, investor relations, and business unit accounting groups; assists with input on report designs, timing, and distribution

Primarily responsible for reviewing and proposing solutions to senior management regarding technical accounting research based on applicable financial reporting guidance

Oversees complex projects related to financial reporting matters, including project management, corporate position paper review, coordination with internal and external auditors and facilitates agreement on various corporate positions

Represents reporting requirements of the corporation in process improvement initiatives to facilitate most efficient financial statement preparation

Acts as a primary point of contact for Investor Relations to provide data and coordinates responses to investor questions

Oversees teams of various sizes on projects with varying levels of complexity and duration, including members of other Company departments to execute projects related to internal and external financial reporting

Ensures appropriate accounting and reporting disclosure of all corporate projects including asset sales and purchases, JV accounting contributions, VIE, business combination, discontinued operations, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in accounting with seven to nine years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.

Masters of Accountancy degree preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Certified Public Accountant certification is preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ability to lead diverse teams on various technical accounting and reporting projects with varying degrees of complexity and duration. Fosters good working relationships with various groups. ,

Two years of management experience is preferred.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and understand business periodicals, professional journals, financial reports, legal documents, and GAAP, SEC, FERC, and AICPA guidance

High level of technical writing proficiency required to write reports, position papers, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations

Ability to effectively listen and get clarification to respond to a wide-range of questions

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with complex financial accounting concepts such as discounted cash flows, commissions, proportions, rates and percentages, probabilities, etc.

Ability to apply the concepts of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:

Interprets technical accounting standards as applied to company transactions, documents accounting positions, and coordinates with internal and external auditors to reach concurrence on corporate positions. Determines appropriate corporate financial statement presentation and disclosure for PNM Resources and all subsidiaries. Ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid and concrete conclusions that can be acted upon. Ability to apply creativity to problem solving and utilize analytic skills and modeling capabilities to provide ongoing insight into the business and to make recommendations and decisions. Ability to define problems, collect data, analyze alternatives, reason, and clearly communicate and support recommendations.

DECISION MAKING:

Makes technical accounting decisions around corporate transactions. Manages the SEC reporting calendar and external auditors around corporate reporting deadlines. Follows the guidelines of GAAP accounting rules and specialized utility related accounting treatments. Follows accounting reporting controls, including SOX controls.

SCOPE AND IMPACT:

Primarily responsible for proposing conclusions to technical accounting matters, highly proficient technical writing skills, ability to clearly communicate and support complex financial reporting concepts to senior management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to sit up to 2/3 of the time and to stand, walk, and stoop up to 1/3 of the time. Good vision and ability to adjust focus is required. Manual dexterity is required. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Overtime is required on a quarterly basis to meet external reporting guideline deadlines.
