JOB DESCRIPTION

ENERGY TECH 3

SUMMARY: 

Construction, maintenance and/or service related work as directed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Constructs new overhead lines.

Constructs new underground lines.

Restores service and troubleshoot.

Sets up service and maintain lines and apparatus.

Re-conducts or converts existing lines.

Ensures safe work conditions.

Operates and maintains equipment.

Trains personnel, plans jobs, and maintains records.

Available to perform on call work as necessary.

May serve either as switchman or dispatcher.

Other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES:

Ability to perform the principal duties, engage in the required physical and mental activities and to endure the environmental conditions set forth in this job description with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Working knowledge of electric utility industry practices and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS                   

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

·High School diploma or equivalent.

·Must be a journeyman lineman who has completed  an accredited, minimum 3-year apprenticeship program with an electric- power organization utilizing an active high-voltage transmission line hotstick maintenance program; or equivalent documented training or work experience with a properly licensed contractor or labor organization.

·Ability to use aerial lifts and line trucks.

·Ability to read switching procedures and electrical one line.

·Ability to successfully complete written and practical skills assessment evaluation.

·Experience in rubber glove and hot stick live line work.

·Basic knowledge of wire stringing and associated equipment.

·Basic knowledge of rigging.

·Ability to read and relate to construction drawings and specifications.

·Must pass a background check.

·Must have a valid Commercial Drivers Class A License and insurable driving record.

· Candidates must also pass required DOT employment tests, e.g. physical examinations.

Previous transmission live line maintenance experience or certification utilizing the barehand technique on voltages up to 345kV a plus

Environmental/Physical Demands:  

This position requires frequent standing, walking, lifting/carrying (up to 50 pounds frequently, up to 100 pounds occasionally), pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, use of fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, and climbing.  Occasional balancing and rarely requires sitting; continuous balancing required climbing poles 90ft plus in height, towers, ladders and in other aspects of the job.  May be required to work in all weather conditions.

This position performs one or more covered tasks that are regulated by 49 CFR Part 192 (Pipeline Safety Regulations).  The regulations require all individuals to complete the qualification process on covered tasks, prior to working on any gas pipeline facility without direct supervision.  Continued employment depends on successful completion of assigned covered task training.  Candidates must also pass required DOT pre-employment tests, e.g. physical examinations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a current, legally valid Commercial Driver's License and meet the company's driving record requirements.
