Lead Senior/Principal Consultant - Energy Economics

Local Unit & Position Description

DNV GL's Energy Advisory group has an exciting opportunity for a Senior/Principal Consultant for its Power System Advisory (PSA) Department. DNV GL-Energy’s PSA provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission and distribution systems including ISOs/RTOs, power utilities, developers, asset owners and operators as well as investors. The Senior/Principal Consultant must have a demonstrated vision, drive, and business experience to contribute to lead, grow and expand the PSA business in the Americas. This role also involves business development and high-value consulting delivery contributing to PSA’s overall regional success.


This position could be based out of any of the following offices: Dallas, TX; Oakland, CA; Medford, MA; Mechanicsburg, PA; Chalfont, PA; or Arlington, VA.


Tasks May Include

  • Execute, lead, and supervise the PSA service offerings for Energy Economic service line including, but not limited to
    • Basis Risk analysis
    • Production cost modeling
    • Price forecasting
  • Work directly with the PSA team to grow the opportunities pipeline and expand the customer portfolio across the North American markets with specific focus on eastern and western interconnections. This work will include:
    • Diligent and timely identification of new business opportunities
    • Leveraging current team capabilities
    • Identifying customer intimacies
    • Inter-company collaboration
  • Conduct customer visits and perform research to understand current and emerging customer needs and/or requirements
  • Establish, build, and maintain customer relationships
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in major ISO/RTO markets in eastern and/or western interconnection and perform QA/QC on related project deliverables
  • Actively attend ISO/RTO market stakeholder meetings and stay up-to-date with ISO/RTO market changes in terms of markets developments and policy changes
  • Assist with the team’s research goals in terms of development of new solutions, techniques and/or analytical tools to improve the team’s performance and grow the service portfolio
Position Qualifications

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Economics required
    • Master's degree preferred
    • Concentration in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering preferred
  • At least 6 years of experience in transmission planning and energy markets in a utility, power trading, renewable energy company, or consulting setting required
  • Experience with ABB PROMOD IV, UPLAN, GE MAPS, PLEXOS, or other production cost modeling tools required
  • Extensive knowledge of major ISO/RTO markets in eastern and/or western interconnect and its planning practices and development activities
  • Profound knowledge of energy market challenges and trends
  • Ability to manage and mentor junior team members in technical competencies
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% within North America
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
