Load Forecasting Analyst

The Load Forecasting Analyst is a junior level position responsible for assisting with the design and development of models and using such models and other analytical tools and methods to forecast and analyze electric and gas customer usage and revenue under the direction of senior staff to provide timely, relevant, and accurate information on which business decisions are based.  This position also reviews and supports the preparation of written testimony and the preparation of information request responses for electric and gas rate cases and other regulatory proceedings.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist with the design, development, and implementation of processes and models, and use such processes and models, to forecast customer demand, usage and revenue.  Includes use of statistical analysis methods and management of databases and analysis applications.
  • Analyze actual customer demand, usage and revenue and work with Ameren Controller’s to analyze and explain variances to budget and prior year performance.  Includes analysis of billing month and calendar month sales and revenue, preparation of weather-normalized sales, and preparation of adjustments for unbilled revenue.
  • Monitor national, regional and local economic conditions and trends to provide insights and data to support forecasting and analysis.
  • Support the preparation of long-range customer demand and usage forecasts for generation asset planning using statistically-adjusted end-use models.  Prepare documentation of forecasts for inclusion in integrated resource plan filings, including satisfaction of specified regulatory data requirements.
  • Perform other sales and revenue analyses and prepare documents and communication materials as needed.


Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline (e.g., engineering, mathematics, statistics, business, economics) required.  Two or more years of relevant experience required.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Proficiency with MS Excel.  Experience with formal writing and preparing presentations.  Proficiency with data preparation and processing – such as assessment of data quality, new variable creation, variable selection, etc.  Familiarity with customer information systems.  Ability to interpret the results of analytical work, assess its relevance to real world business performance, and communicate the information in plain language that is readily understood by non-technical staff.  Experience with data mining/predictive modeling tools such as SAS, SPSS, etc.  Experience with ratemaking concepts and tariff structures a plus.
