The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking an experienced waste technical lead reporting to the Nuclear Facility Managers (NFMs) in the Production Facilities Division.
INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel design, development and fabrication through post irradiation analysis.
The technical lead is responsible for the implementation and execution of materials and waste management generation and disposition at MFC facilities. The incumbent will provide technical input to facility disposition plans for new and existing and waste streams at MFC. This individual will also serve as team leader and contributor to teams in addressing activities and issues related to efficient materials and waste management at MFC.
•Responsible to qualify and perform as needed the functions as Material Balance Area(MBA), Criticality Safety Officer(CSO)and Facility Disposition Specialist
•Develop out-year disposition plans for all existing and future waste streams focused on cost-effective disposition options at MFC
•Provide input and recommendations to MFC facilities in resolving waste-related compliance and characterization issues
•Represent MFC facilities on projects and programs and interacts with senior personnel requiring coordination across organization lines involving waste
•Support implementation of ISO 14001 and other critical company initiatives, and ensure work is conducted in a safe and efficient manner
•Ensure implementation of TRU waste generator site requirements at assigned area
•Collaborate with facility MBA/CSO/RMAC’s, ES&H organization and specifically Program Environmental Lead (PEL) and WGS to ensure compliance with requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 5-8 years of related experience or Master's Degree and 3-6 years of related experience. Engineering degree disciplines are highly preferred
Relevant experience includes waste management and/or environmental compliance.
Must be a US Citizen and have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” clearance.
Preferred Skills:•Working knowledge of waste management requirements of DOE Order 435.1•Good written and oral communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills with waste-related (LLW, MLLW, TRU, MTRU and HLW) environmental compliance experience. •Should possess strong working knowledge in radioactive waste management and P2/Waste Min, and have experience implementing these requirements in the field. •Must be able to effectively manage multiple tasks and deal with changing priorities without appreciable direction.
