NERC Compliance Specialist

Local Unit & Position Description

DNV GL – Energy Insights USA, Inc. Division is seeking a NERC Compliance Specialist to join our NERC Team, Regulatory Compliance. This position is based out of our Chalfont, PA office.


Tasks May Include


  • Primary
    • Provide sound technical and business advisory guidance to clients on matters pertaining to grid modernization and operation
    • Support client initiatives
    • Build outstanding client relationships based on domain knowledge, trust, and willingness to step up and do what’s necessary
    • Ready and open to apply new approaches and methods to solving customer challenges
  • Secondary
    • Promote and advance to customers through technical networking
    • Build personal brand and knowledge base
    • Help advance the DNVGL brand and thought leadership
  • Core
    • Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art technology and market trends affecting products and services
    • Deliver projects and services with diligence, integrity, and purpose
    • Highly motivated to drive client and consultant team success
    • Understand electric utility delivery system operations, such as distribution network, substation system, protection and control operation, associated regulatory requirements, etc.
Position Qualifications


  • Associate degree or equivalent experience required
  • 3+ years of experience in the energy field
  • Fluent in MS Office products
  • Cyber Security Credentials are desired
  • IEEE Membership is desired
  • Must be familiar with NERC 693 requirements and associated evidence of compliance
  • Must be familiar with NERC-CIP requirements and associated evidence of compliance
  • Must be able to sell Compliance Services
  • Desirable if qualified to perform a NERC-CIP Cyber Vulnerability Assessment
  • Desirable if able to provide client compliance training
  • Needs to understand a Utility’s:
    • Operations
    • Planning
    • Protection Systems
    • Substations
    • Generation
    • Transmission
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision, prioritize efforts, and effectively switch between tasks
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities effectively
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-service attitude and team-oriented spirit
  • willingness and availability to travel up to 20% at times to support client compliance efforts
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ongoing seven year criminal background check required
  • We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening
