Responsibilities

The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) is seeking candidates for Nuclear Fuels Engineer. This ideal candidate will serve as a Subject MatterExpert (SME) in Nuclear Engineering to cover programmatic and researchactivities in the general areas of nuclear fuels and materials irradiationperformance within the Post Irradiation Examination Division.


This position is responsible for planning, designing, andanalyzing irradiation experiments to be conducted in a variety of research andtest reactors in order to evaluate the performance of advanced nuclear fuelsand materials. The successful incumbent will develop post-irradiationexamination plans, oversee data collection, reduction and analysis of the performancedata, and publish results in internal reports and the open literature.


Current fuel development programs at the INL include fuelsfor fast-spectrum reactors, gas-cooled reactors, research reactors, andcommercial power reactors. Preferred candidates will have knowledge andexperience in the performance issues associated with one or more of thefollowing fuel types: metallic fuels,ceramic fuels, TRISO-coated particle fuels, research reactor fuels, and/or LWRfuels.



Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) "L" Security Clearance
PhD in Nuclear Engineering (or related Engineering field) and 2 years of relevant work experience
