Job Description

The GAS group performs advanced network applications tuning for the control room, testing and validation of model loads, and prepares reports, documents manuals and procedures for various applications. 

JOB SUMMARY 

Provides electrical engineering analysis and technical support for the planning and operation of the electric power system.  Implements appropriate system modeling, develops tools and procedures to monitor and control the system, performs system studies, analyzes simulated or actual operating results, develops solutions to current or future system issues, and appropriately reports findings and recommendations.

  • Analyzes network analysis tool accuracy and determine ways to improve network applications and test those improvements prior to deployment.
  • Formulates recommended procedure revisions for supporting and enhancing network applications.
  • Tunes the ERCOT real-time network applications.
  • Performs and/or reviews performance of participant qualification testing.
  • Gathers information on unusual events and prepare reports.
  • Supports ERCOT by working with various ERCOT subcommittees, working groups, and task forces.
  • Supports and monitor the performance of advanced applications for operations, including State Estimator, Voltage Stability. Analysis, Load Forecast, Contingency Analysis, Power Flow, and Voltage/Transient Stability Analysis.
  • Serves as subject matter expert for capital projects and system operations training development.
  • Provides rotating On-Call Support for the Real-Time Network Applications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or a combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with knowledge equivalent to a major in such fields.

Work Experience


Engineer 2

  • Minimum 1 to 2 years (in excess of degree requirements stated above) of progressively responsible experience as a power system engineer or similar type role.  Experience within the electric utility industry preferred.


Engineer 3 -

  • Minimum 3 years (in excess of degree requirements stated above) of progressively responsible experience as a power system engineer or similar type role. Experience within the electric utility industry preferred.

Senior level Engineer -

  • Minimum 5 years (in excess of degree requirements stated above) of progressively responsible experience as a power system engineer or similar type role within the electric utility industry.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Professional Engineer registration in Texas preferred.

Position is open to a Level 2, Level 3, or Senior Engineer depending on the experience the identified candidate has.
