Design and develop training, classroom and simulator, for ISO-NE System Operators to ensure their preparedness to reliably operate the New England power grid and efficient markets.

ISO New England's Operational Performance, Training & Integration (OPTI) group is a highly responsive and flexible team, responsible for collaborating with internal and external entities to provide a full spectrum of support for the dynamic needs of the System Operations environment. The OPTI group is integral to the development of training, software, processes and procedures that ISO System Operators use to effectively manage and operate the bulk electric system. Also, through analysis of system performance during normal and abnormal conditions, the OPTI group develops recommendations for process, software, and human performance improvement.

At this time the OPTI group is seeking a unique individual; a highly motivated team player, possessing the perseverance to follow through on complex, multi-year projects and the flexibility to respond to emergent requests.   This individual is a demonstrated fast learner, is detail oriented and thorough, and has the desire to multi-task in order to excel at the various roles required of this position which include, but are not limited to:

  • Operations Trainer
  • Operations Training Simulator Operator
  • Operations Business Analyst
Responsibilities
  • Participating in all phases of the Systematic Approach to Training in support of the various OPTI Training programs, as assigned, including, but not limited to, ISO-NE System Operator Initial & Continuing Training, Operations Support Staff Training, Resource Operator OP-14 Training (ROOT), WEM-101, and ISO-101
  • Analyzing the training needs of the trainees included within the various OPTI Training programs
  • Designing and developing training materials using a variety of instructional media for use in a variety of settings, including simulation environments
  • Implementing training in a variety of settings, including classrooms, computer-based settings, and simulation environments
  • Evaluating training courses and programs in order to identify areas for improvement as well as best practices
  • Collaborating with the training staffs of NPCC Control Areas and New England Local Control Centers to deliver joint and coordinated training
  • Collaborating with OPTI and Control Room staff to review and update Control Room Operator tasks when necessary to ensure compliance with NERC Standard PER-005-2 requirements
  • Documenting and maintaining training records for audit and compliance purposes
  • Participating as a contributing member of the OPTI Training Advisory Committee (TAC)
  • Participating as a part of internal and external training committees and technical working groups
Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Experience in, or support of a control room environment
  • Working knowledge of the use of Control Room Operator software including one or more of the following: GE/ALSTOM EMS, GE/ALSTOM Market System Applications, Interchange Scheduling Software
  • Working knowledge of the operation of the New England bulk power system, including knowledge of applicable Operating Procedures and processes, as well as an understanding of major system components and topology
