Planning Analyst, Resource Adequacy

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state. The NYISO’s Market Operations department invites applications for a full-time Planning Analyst, Resource Adequacy.

The Planning Analyst, Resource Adequacy will evaluate the reliability of the New York State Bulk Power System (BPS) from a resource adequacy perspective.  This individual will perform resource adequacy analysis for studies, act as a liaison between the NYISO and its stakeholders for resourced based reliability issues, and use broad based knowledge of NYISO systems, markets, and processes to develop models that represent the operation of the New York State BPS. Other responsibilities include creating study reports, NYISO manuals, and other procedure documents, applying knowledge of NYISO tariffs to procedural tasks and issues, and presenting reports and technical issues to internal and external groups across a broad range of market participants and industry groups.  

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Engineering, Mathematics or Applied Science required.  Course studies in statistical analysis and optimization techniques particularly using linear programming based computer models are desired.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Two years of industry or related professional experience required.
  • Knowledge of ISO/RTO operations, markets, and planning. 
  • Experience performing statistical analysis employing programming based computer models, particularly in an ISO/RTO, electric utility or consulting environment; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience with programming language, like Python, to mine large data sets is highly desirable.
