Power Control System Technician II:

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • Associate Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job, plus two (2) years of experience in a field related to the job.
      Experience may substitute for education up to two (2) years.
  • Licenses and Certifications Required:

    • Valid driver’s license.

Power Control System Technician III:

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • Associate Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Engineering, Electronics, or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years experience related to installation and maintenance of electronic communications, computer and peripheral equipment or control and instrumentation equipment.
      Experience may substitute for education up to two (2) years.
  • Licenses or Certifications:

    • If position resides in Electric Substation Maintenance, it may require a
CDL.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Power Control System Technician:
This position is located in the Complex Metering Operations workgroup for Austin Energy. This position will interrogate and program meters with different types of communications. The top candidate will be self-motivated and work with technical internal and external customers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing commissioning and operational checks of newly installed revenue/interchange meters.
  • Experience relocating/replacing of switchboard and socket meters.
  • Experience working with multiple groups and providing technical expertise in meter applications.
  • Experience working with internal technical field operation groups and external customers.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 or similar quality management system.
  • Experience with electric utility standards, maintenance practices, procedures, tools, and equipment.
  • Experience working with meter protocols like DNP and MODBUS, and establishing communications via LAN, Serial and cell modem communications.
  • Experience working with TCP/IP networking, firewalls, and VLANs.
  • Experience managing and maintaining third party software such as ION Setup, 1132Comm, MVLT, etc.
  • Experience working with Itron MV90 or PrimeStone, PrimeRead headend software.
  • Experience calibrating and certifying field equipment using the test kits such as WE20, RW30, RM17, etc.
