Power System Applications Engineer

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state. The NYISO’s Power System Application department invites applications for a full-time Power System Applications Engineer.

The Power System Applications department is responsible for updating and maintaining the electric power system model used by the scheduling and dispatch software; developing and applying a working knowledge of the New York State high voltage transmission system and the network model database software to support the NYISO market and security functions and supporting the real-time power system analysis, primarily the estate estimator contingency analysis functions and PMU applications.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the transmission network and generation resource models that are used to support the day-Ahead and Real-Time energy markets as well as the basis for the TCC market.

  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) Electrical Engineering required; Master’s Degree (MS) Electrical Engineering preferred. 
  • No prior industry related or professional experience required, however candidates with one to three years of experience in power system engineering, unit commitment operation, operations or related discipline;
  • Working knowledge of state estimator programs; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience are encouraged to apply.
