The Opportunity

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a professional, innovative and detailed individual for our Property Operator I position. This is a Third shift position, Monday- Friday 7:30PM – 6:00AM. Starting wage is $13.50 an hour plus shift differential. Property Operator I


  • With close guidance from Property Operations Supervisor, perform daily custodial maintenance duties as required: includes sweeping, dusting, scrubbing, mopping, and trash removal; appropriate response to security calls as needed.
  • Complete routine deliveries and stocking as directed.
  • Work closely with other Property Operators, assist with grounds keeping, personnel moves, and routine floor care.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; perform routine maintenance as required.
  • Follow existing and promote continuous improvement of workplace safety, environmental practices, area processes, and waste reduction opportunities.
  • Model SEL Values.
  • Continuously identify, measure, and improve processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Ability to:
  • With guidance operate custodial operation-related equipment and use applicable chemicals, supplies, hand and power tools
  • Read, understand, follow, and strictly enforce safety procedures
  • Understand written and verbal communications
  • Work various shifts, hours and days depending on workload
  • Learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to meet MVR Qualification Standards of SEL
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience and increasing responsibilities in maintaining and cleaning commercial facilities
  • High school diploma or GED

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and maneuver 40 pounds frequently
  • Pull weight from high/low shelves
  • Reach
  • Bend
  • Grip
  • Twist
  • Stand for at least 8 hours
