Safety Data Strategist

The Safety Data Strategist interprets data analytics results and translates into usable information for strategic and tactical safety decisions. Manages and maintains corporate and departmental performance and safety metrics displaying information in understandable dashboards with a focus on leading indicators that drive proactive actions. Interprets safety information to develop recommendations to inform and drive safety performance.

 Key responsibilities include:

  • Initiate the inclusion of additional data sets for augmenting existing analytic efforts as well as identifying new analyses to yield actionable information for business partners and the safety department.
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of Ameren's safety management system (Safety1Source) and assist in improving the systems and processes used to capture, house, analyze and display safety data.
  • Provide data regarding the current and historical safety performance of the operations for Ameren and its individual divisions/functions as well as department and project-related reporting, and format it into a meaningful fashion for Ameren Safety business partners.  Information may be communicated up to Senior Leadership and Board of Directors level.
  • Collaborate with leadership and the broader safety team in refining the data analysis to create a clear picture of Ameren’s safety  and risk mitigation opportunities at both an organizational and function level to improve safety performance
  • Develop and maintain corporate and departmental performance scorecards, dashboards and other performance monitoring tools.
  • Assist with statistical, regulatory reporting of injury records, benchmarking, trending and safety-analysis information, forecasting, including preparation of specialized reports and confidential documents.
  • Maintain organizational structure in safety database to enable generation of reports for business segment, division/department, plant or operating center.


Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in business, accounting, statistics or related field.  Five years of relevant data analysis experience required.  Safety experience preferred. Knowledge of safety discipline and/or utility industry preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Project management skills, strategic thinking, and ability to draw connections between data points. Proficiency in Office 365 with advanced level expertise in Excel required (e.g. pivot tables, complex formulas, graphing, etc.). Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI preferred.  Report writing, ability to translate complex data into meaningful information.
