SCADA/EMS Analyst II
The position resides in the Data Engineering Group to provide operational support for CIP and ADMS projects. This is a 24/7 on-call job to ensure that the critical SCADA/ADMS systems used by System Control Center operators is accurate and up to date so that they have a clear view of the Austin Energy’s Power Grid at the Transmission (EMS) and Distribution (ADMS) level to make appropriate decisions during field upgrades, repairs, and changes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience planning and coordinating with substation planning division of an electric utility
  • Knowledge of electric utility power grid including generation, electric substations, overhead and underground transmission and distribution lines, network systems, protection systems, supervisory control
  • Experience reading and understanding Substation Design Drawings, including IEEE device numbers and functions
  • 2 years of experience in Remote Terminal Unit and Data Concentrators configuration
  • Experience with SEL family or similar products
  • Experience with Remote Terminal Unit protocols
  • 2 years of experience in database modification and maintenance
  • 2 years of experience with SCADA systems in an electric utility environment
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Access and Visio
  • Experience providing technical support of a control room
  • Experience with NERC/CIP, ERCOT, and PUCT
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

  1. Leads and supports 7/24 real-time control system integrity.
  2. Oversees and leads daily evaluations and tunes real-time control systems operations.
  3. Communicates with dispatchers, engineers and field crews.
  4. Performs trouble shooting, problem analysis and resolution.
  5. Coordinates and analyzes the real-time control system user's request.
  6. Develops and implements enhancements or modifications.
  7. Communicates activity status to customers and management.
  8. Performs engineering analysis, configuration, repair, and quality control of SCADA equipment.
  9. Updates, maintains and documents security controls.
  10. Enforces security policies and procedures by administering and monitoring data security profiles.
  11. Designs and develops configuration for Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) function.
  12. Performs engineering analysis, configuration, and quality control of SCADA equipment.
  13. Oversees and leads technical consultation on complex system issues.
  14. Makes recommendations and suggestions to management and users.
  15. Interacts with EMS vendor or third-party technology vendors.
  16. Stays abreast of the changing technology environment.
  17.  Oversees efforts to keep up with the latest developments in the utility industry, to meet.
  18. Write technical and business documentation (including audit and training).

  • Ability to perform systems testing of specification requirements
