The Clinical Services Program's primary mission is to perform sequential studies of immune function in patients with cancer, AIDS, chronic granulomatous disease or other diseases associated with immunologic dysfunction, as well as to monitor viral load in patients with HIV.
The Vaccine, Immunity and Cancer Program at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research is seeking a highly motivated Scientific Technical Project Manager, with strong expertise in drug discovery and development in the area of cancer prevention and experience in managing complex projects within established timelines.

- Work closely with a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team to discover novel druggable targets for cancer prevention
- Create and maintain strong business relationship with stakeholders
- Oversee and manage scientific and technical operations of projects dealing with drug discovery and development
- Prepare project management plans, proposals, reports, presentations, and manuscripts
- Oversee subcontract operations
- Provide computational support during hit validation studies and conduct data analyses
- Be accountable for project status and closely track milestones and timelines
- Design and conduct laboratory experiments
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of a PhD in a field related to Pharmacology or in a related discipline from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) appropriate to biomedical research (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education); Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- In addition to the education requirements, a minimum of five (5) years of experience in characterization and identification of target drug candidates in biotechnology or pharmaceutical setting
- Hands-on experience in chemical genetic-based approaches and experience in ONE or more of these computational areas: transcriptomics, epigenomics, or proteomics
- Previous experience as a Scientific Project Manager on large scale multidisciplinary projects
- Experience in oversight and management of contracts
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Knowledge of monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS)
- Knowledge of smoldering multiple myeloma (SMM) and multiple myeloma
- Experience in tissue culture, cell line maintenance, and organoid cultures
- Knowledge of medicinal chemistry
- Experience in drug development in cancer
- Must be highly collaborative, self-motivated and able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team across the organization
- Highly organized with excellent analytical, documentation, and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to efficiently manage workload over multiple projects
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills in order to work closely with numerous stakeholders from diverse organizations
