Senior Engineer – Power System Advisory

Local Unit & Position Description

DNV GL – Energy’s Energy Advisory group has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer for its Power System Advisory (PSA) Department. DNV GL - Energy’s PSA provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission and distribution systems including ISOs/RTOs, power utilities, developers, asset owners and operators as well as investors. The Senior Engineer must have a demonstrated experience to perform power system studies such as Steady State, Dynamic Stability and Short Circuit studies. This role also involves business development and high-value delivery of consulting services contributing to PSA’s overall regional success. This position can be based out of our office in Dallas, TX or Oakland, CA.

 

Tasks May Include

  • Execute the PSA service offerings for Resource Integration service line including, but not limited to generation interconnection applications and grid reliability studies such as steady state analysis, stability analysis and short circuit studies
  • Working with and/or developing automation tools to improve the processes for Resource Integration service
  • Becoming a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in major ISO/RTO markets and perform QA/QC on related project deliverables
  • Working directly with the Resource Integration service lead to grow the opportunities pipeline and expand the customer portfolio across the North American regions
  • Assisting in preparing proposals as well as project deliverables including technical reports and presentations
  • Actively attending ISO/RTO market stakeholder meetings and staying up-to-date with ISO/RTO market changes in terms of Generation Interconnection process developments and policy changes
  • Assist with the team’s research goals in terms of development of new solutions, techniques and/or analytical tools to improve the team’s performance and grow the service portfolio
Position Qualifications

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering required
    • Power Systems major preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience in generation interconnection and/or transmission planning in a utility, Renewable energy developer or consulting setting
    • Experience with ISO/RTO and utility Generation Interconnection stakeholder processes is required
  • At least 2 years of relevant hands-on experience with power system analysis software packages such as PSS/E, PSS MUST, PowerWorld, GE PSLF, TARA, PSCAD, and/or ASPEN required
  • Ability to manage and/or mentor junior team members in technical competencies
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% within North America
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

  • Demonstrated experience with Generation Interconnection applications in ISO/RTO queues
  • Extensive knowledge of major ISO/RTO markets in eastern and/or western interconnect and their practices and processes
  • Demonstrated experience with automation scripting tools such as Python and/or VB/VBA scripts
