The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state. The NYISO’s Operations department invites applications for a full-time Lead Grid Operations Engineer in our Grid Operations group.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team tasked with ensuring that the flow of electricity to New York’s people and business goes uninterrupted. The successful candidates will work in a brand new, state-of-the-art control center. The Control Center’s video wall is the largest installation for the utility industry in North America. It’s one hundred, 80- inch diagonal LED screens are stacked twenty-five wide by four high, spanning a space 131 feet wide and 18 feet tall.
The primary responsibility of the Senior Grid Operations Engineer is to develop and maintain processes and procedures to maintain system reliability for use by the Grid Operations Department. In order to support the NYISO markets and security functions, the Senior Grid Operations Engineer is expected to possess working knowledge of NERC, NPCC, NYSRC Reliability Standards, the New York State high voltage transmission system and Energy and Business Management software. This individual will provide support in the development of software and techniques to assist in analyzing Grid Operations functions. The Senior Grid Operations Engineer will also participate in process reviews, data gathering, and run reports to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the department. The Senior Grid Operations Engineer will attend meetings as the department representative as well as transmit information between the committee attendees and the Grid Operations management team.
