Vision: INL will change the world's energy future and secure our critical infrastructure.Responsibilities The Department of Data and Software Sciences at Idaho National Laboratory is seeking eager, early career software scientists, preferably with secondary experience in data science, in support of its digital engineering initiative for nuclear energy systems.Digital, model-based approaches will transform current engineering practices, securely connecting people, processes, data, and capabilities across an end-to-end digital ecosystem. Cutting edge technologies in advanced computing, big data analytics, internet-of-things, and artificial intelligence will be enabled through the ecosystem to help domain experts solve challenges in new, innovative ways through a virtual environment.In this position, you will be a critical team member in developing the software framework for the digital ecosystem and will have the following skills:
- Development experience developing software in Node.js, Java, and/or Python
- Experience with Linux and Windows deployment environments
- Knowledge of REST-based web services
- Knowledge of cloud services (Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, etc.)
- Familiarity with database design and development (relational; non-relational, particularly graph-based)
- Self-starter, with a focus on continuous learning; and enjoys collaborating to discovery innovative ways to solve challenges
It is highly desirable the candidate have some or all of the following secondary data science skills:
- Data Science Qualifications (Desired)
- Familiarity with machine learning and tools (Python, R, Tableau, SAS)
- Some familiarity with mechanical modeling is also a plus (Abaqus, Ansys or similar)
In this position, you will support the department and INL in research and development activities. You will demonstrate effective research skills and the ability to collaborate and partner with other government agencies, academia, and private sector companies to achieve project objectives. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers on challenging work scope. You will communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with management, co-workers, and with customers. You will publish results of research and development in a mix of refereed publications and conference proceedings. You will also work effectively with other research teams to develop and manage cross-cutting technical programs for a variety of customers. BS with 0-2 years experience in computer science, physics, engineering, data science or a related field.
