SQL Developer


Job Description:  This is an exceptional opportunity for the successful candidate to work in a pace-setting software firm. EPIS, LLC is the developer of Aurora, the leading-edge software for forecasting wholesale power market prices. The company also provides ready-to-use data for North America, Europe, Mexico, among others, and world-class customer support to its growing body of customers worldwide. This role will be responsible for designing master data repositories, from which specific-model-formatted versions can be easily created. In addition, responsibilities include ensuring efficiency, stability, reliability, and performance of related processes and work products.  This role will have the ability to set standards, implement data migration and automation techniques.




  • The position consists of developing and then maintaining master data repositories (e.g. SQL Server database) for use in various power market models
  • The role will develop methods (scripting, coding, etc.) to automate the exporting of our master data repository into a several stand-alone databases in a minimum of three formats (.xdb, XML, and Excel) for use in the models mentioned above  
  • The role will also be developing methods for scripting, coding, and automating inputs from other external sources into our master data repository
  • The candidate will take ownership of the EPIS databases by monitoring and communicating project deliverables while working with general supervision as needed to receive guidance and feedback
  • You will be collaborating with other team members and your manager to build, deliver, and support effective, creative data management solutions aligned to specified goals 
  • Serve as the technical expert for database engineering practices, design notations and methods
  • Desired business outcomes include stable, accurate, efficient data management to support our client’s data needs


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree: Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Economics, Applied Math, Physics, or related field
  • SQL Developer with in-depth experience using the latest versions of a relational database format (MS SQL Server preferred, other formats welcome)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a SQL management and manipulation language (Python preferred, others welcome) to assist in automating and updating data methods
  • Ability to write complex queries, stored procedures, triggers, functions, and troubleshoot common database issues
  • Have expertise in working with Excel functions and capabilities
  • The individual should practice continuous improvement by proactively identifying improvement opportunities, generating ideas, and implementing solutions
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to research and learn new techniques
  • Ability to articulate the business problem to be analyzed, quickly identify the critical elements of the problem, achieve a high quality answer in a timely fashion, and synthesize answers to resonate with decision makers
  • Team player, with the ability to be a self-starter and work independently as needed


Preferred Qualifications:


  • 3 to 6 years of work experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator
  • 3 to 6 years of work experience as a MySQL Database Administrator
  • Strong database management skills, including backup and recovery procedures
  • Working knowledge of Visual Basic or comparable Excel macro programming techniques
  • Working knowledge of XML programming techniques
  • Demonstrated capability of effectively communicating complex ideas and analysis verbally, in document format (Word), and in presentation format (Power Point).
  • Experience with EIA, FERC, ENTSOE, or other power industry data sets
  • Experience with power market production cost models
  • Degree or certificate specializing in Power Markets
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of power plant operations, electricity and fuel markets, and unit generation
