Org: Analysis & Controls
Work Location: Idaho Falls, ID (9x80 Schedule)
Mission/Vision Statement Leading Nuclear Energy and Research Technology Mission: Discover, demonstrate and secure innovative nuclear energy solutions, other clean energy options and critical infrastructure. Vision: INL will change the world's energy future and secure our critical infrastructure. Responsibilities The INL is seeking and experienced Control Systems Cyber Security Analyst with Cybercore in INL's National & Homeland Security Directorate. The person in this position will lead cutting edge technical analysis of cyber threats against the industrial control systems that form the very backbone of our nation’s critical infrastructure (e.g., our electrical grid, oil & gas pipelines, nuclear energy facilities, military installations and transportation networks).
Leveraging their cyber and writing expertise, the person chosen for this position will draw from open source and classified intelligence information to draft technical reports, briefings, white papers, strategies, and other products that help inform USG agencies, the Department of Defense, public utilities and international partners. The Analyst will lead collaborative teams usually comprised of one or more other analysts, control systems subject matter experts, power engineers, and cyber researchers to execute a mix of both short and long-term technical projects.
This position requires strong communication skills, a willingness to learn new ways of thinking, and a thirst for continuous learning. You will be called upon to inform high levels of the US Government concerning issues involving critical infrastructure and cyber and control systems security. The person in this position is expected to distill complex technical information into concise written reports and briefings for non-technical audiences. You also are expected to extract project requirements and information from unstructured and sometimes unclear and unrelated sources, and piece those together to form expert opinions concerning the capabilities of cyber adversaries. You will be looked upon to be a self-motivated individual who is willing to take the initiative to identify and execute work.
This is an exciting time to be in the field of control systems cyber threat analysis, as protecting our industrial control systems from foreign cyber attacks is now recognized by both government and industry as one of the nation’s highest priority challenges.

  • Applicants with a body of published analyses on industrial control systems in the oil & gas and electric industries, in maritime engineering, or with military-related industrial control systems will be viewed very favorably.
  • Applicants who, in addition to the skills and experience listed above, also possess language skills in Chinese Mandarin, Persian, Arabic, Russian or other foreign languages will be highly competitive.
