JOB SUMMARY

Develops and executes architecture strategy and support strategic system development initiatives.  Provides design recommendations. Develops enterprise level applications and custom integration solutions including major enhancements, interfaces, functions and features.

JOB DUTIES

  • Broadly applies principles, theories and concepts related to the profession. A seasoned, experienced professional with an in-depth/full understanding of area of specialization.
  • May provide recommendations regarding issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices.   Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Wide latitude for decisions within assignments, programs and projects; impact is generally limited to the project or department.
  • Acts as a resource to advise, and may at times a lead the work of lower level professional and/or support employees.  Generally represents the department on projects and may perform in a project leadership role.

Storage Architect
Level 1
•             Responsible for architectural guidance of a small to mid-sized team tasked with design, development and implementation of data storage functionalities
•             Assists in defining the overall enterprise based strategies
•             Provides guidance on code statistics, development metrics and assists in the implementation and maintenance of a standardized development methodology
•             Interfaces with key groups to ensure quality product delivery
•             Possesses and maintains technical proficiency
•             Guides the team on emerging technologies with an ability to use them

Level 2 – Above +
•             Responsible for the design, architecture, configuration management, and the capacity planning of ERCOT's storage (including backups) infrastructure
•             Architects and controls storage standards and processes
•             Effectively manages storage equipment life-cycles, providing input into budget preparation
•             Responsible for the planning and design of new or additional storage technology to improve infrastructure service, both locally and remotely
•             Assists with resource and workload management and capacity planning
•             Knowledge of: Storage Area Networks, SAN Configuration and Disaster Recovery concepts, C/C++, UNIX, LINUX processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and storage technologies
•             Define requirements for high-performance, high-availability, and high-scalability storage platforms
•             Design and implement storage virtualization, parallel file system, cluster management, file system distribution
•             Create innovative solutions to address challenging IT problems in distributed systems
•             Collaborate with other development, test, and service teams throughout a product lifecycle

Level Senior – Above +
•             Advanced level experience in management, maintenance, and implementation of data storage solutions
•             Ability to apply knowledge of SAN fabric architecture and storage technology architecture principles to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions
•             SAN switch technology management, storage provisioning, LUN masking, zoning, performance management, and volume management
•             Advanced level experience in management, maintenance, and implementation of NAS architecture
•             Advanced level experience in Management, maintenance and implementation of VTL architecture and physical tape
•             Develops and maintains technology road maps
•             Develops standards and policies for respective technology domains
•             Controls and documents process automation configuration management, and operation of storage management
•             Ability to work on project teams, delivering on key project milestones, and communicating effectively with a wide variety of people
•             Participation in Disaster Recovery infrastructure planning, design, and testing
•             Works advanced level infrastructure tasks and tickets
•             Serves as a Subject Matter Expert providing guidance to lower level workers.  May schedule work, train, mentor, and/or coach other employees
•             Conveys team goals effectively through strong written and verbal communication skills

Level Lead – Above +
•             Master level experience in management, maintenance, and implementation of data storage solutions
•             Master level experience in management, maintenance, and implementation of NAS architecture
•             Master level experience in Management, maintenance and implementation of VTL architecture and physical tape
•             Works expert level infrastructure tasks and tickets
•             Serves as a Subject Matter Expert providing guidance to lower level workers
•             Leads projects, schedules work, trains, mentors, and provides coaching for other employees
•             Ensures work assignments of team members are completed in a timely manner and reviews work product of team for accuracy prior to submitting for management approval
•             Works on the most complex issues where analysis of situations requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Has the ability to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways
•             Maintains knowledge of emerging trends and industry best practices

Certifications (all levels)
•             NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA), NetApp Certified SAN Implementation Engineer (NCIE-SAN), NetApp Certified Backup and Recovery Engineer (NCIE-B&R) (preferred)

EXPERIENCE

  • Requires minimum 8 years related work experience in excess of degree requirements

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree : Computer Science, MIS or related field (Required)
  • Master's Degree : Computer Science, MIS or related field (Preferred)
  • or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required
