About The Position


The Substation Design and Construction Engineer is responsible for engineering design, technical support, and project management for distribution and sub-transmission substations. Primary responsibility will be designs associated with the replacement of aging infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include:


  • Develop engineering solutions, cost estimates, and work scope, for the efficient replacement of aging assets while at the same time maximizing the benefits of new technologies offered by new equipment and modern construction methods.
  • Perform work order estimates, secure funding, and develop schedules.
  • Perform detailed design, write specifications, and evaluate options.
  • Perform constructability reviews with the construction team and affected groups. Tailor designs to modern construction methods.
  • Coordinate Drafting, Operating, Construction and Relay Test.
  • Work with drafting resources to direct drawing completion.
  • Assume responsibility for overall project cost, timeliness and efficiency.


Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university required.  Bachelor of Science Degree in other engineering disciplines will be considered for applicants with five or more years of substation related experience. Active commitment to obtain Professional Engineer (P.E.) License is preferred. Prefer substation design, maintenance, or relay experience. Related electrical engineering experience will be considered.


In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:


Good computer skills including Excel, spread sheet scheduling, and report writing. Must have good decision making, analytical, communication, and human relations skills.  Must have the ability to work as part of team, accept feedback, and continuously improve. Must handle multiple concurrent work assignments.  Travel within the Ameren Missouri service territory is required.
