Summer Intern 2019 - Planning Dynamic Studies

The mission of the ERCOT Summer Internship Program is to partner with students pursuing academic excellence to create opportunities that stretch learning experiences into a work environment with intellectually challenging projects and assignments. These opportunities will promote utility industry awareness, growth, and identification of top talent for future employment. The summer internship will be 40 hours a week during the summer. 

Intern will perform work related to steady state and voltage stability in one or more of the following areas:

  • Assess transmission system reactive support limitations for transferring power long distances, for example transferring renewable energy from West Texas to load centers in the eastern part of the state.  May include steady state power flow and/or voltage stability analysis.
  • Investigate potential system improvements and considerations of various transmission devices.​

Desired Educational Level (Degrees earned or being sought by the Candidate)

·         Pursuing a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with a focus on power systems

Preferred experience

  • Good understanding of power system basics
  • Basic understanding of power system power flow analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Python Programming, and Matlab

Preferred work schedule of the intern:

  • 40 hours a week / Monday – Friday 8AM - 5PM
  • Must be available to work onsite – Interns will not be eligible for remote work.
  • May 28, 2019 – August 14, 2019

Our summer internship program is a paid learning experience targeting primarily for students who have a GPA of 3.0 or better and who have at least completed their sophomore year.
