  • Supervises a team of IT production support analysts that provide technical support for ERCOT’s commercial application suite and related interfaces.
  • Provides direction to the team to process changes, minimize the risk to the stability of applications when processing changes, and review, test, and implement new application related tools or utilities as appropriate to meet business requirements and continuously improve performance. Assists in establishing and executing departmental goals and initiatives.



  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and performance management of staff.
  • Frequently interacts with direct reports and functional peer groups. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others.
  • Provides direct supervision to professional individual contributors and/or skilled, support individual contributors.
  • Acts as an advisor to department and may become actively involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems. A small portion of time is normally spent performing individual tasks related to the department. Typically has full responsibility for direct reports.
  • May provide input to budgeting and financial decisions that impact the department. Requests approval for financial actions beyond a limited scope per policy. actions beyond a limited scope per policy. 


  • Schedules and assigns work for employees
  • Reviews and approves employee timesheets and leave requests
  • Develops employees through goal setting, performance reviews, coaching, and career planning
  • Supervises the IT operations support and maintenance of multiple applications and services, ranging from electronic transaction processing, web services, application integration and middleware, generation of data extracts and reports, and batch processing
  • Supports ERCOT’s production, test, and market test environments
  • Maintains application functionality and security for respective user groups
  • Works closely with ERCOT server infrastructure, network, database, and storage teams
  • Works closely with ERCOT software development teams
  • Provides on-call support outside business hours as needed to support direct reports and applications
  • Participates in application migration planning and execution
  • Coordinates and participates in application testing related to new functionality and defect resolution
  • Provides timely responses to business unit requests and queries, while tracking and resolving issues
  • Defines, implements and refines application processes to maximize application performance, and resolve defined business problems
  • Acts as incident manager for critical production issues
  • Supports ERCOT’s project development process
  • Participates in user functional and technical specification development
  • Collaborates with other application and technical resources when resolving a problem or implementing a system change
  • Analyzes current support processes and recommends improvements
  • Conducts structured reviews of high-level designs
  • Ensures that deadlines are met and high quality standards are maintained
  • Develops and sustains a high level understanding of the competitive energy markets
  • Increases and maintains proficiency as an “Industry Expert” on operational support technologies, methodologies, and concepts
  • Establishes strong working relationships with key ERCOT staff members and vendors
  • Updates and maintains required support documentation, following documentation standards
  • Identifies and acts upon functional and technical design and system architecture improvements
  • Supports ERCOT’s business continuity processes
  • Represents IT Support Services in ERCOT meetings 


  • Requires minimum 5 years related work experience and 1 year in leadership role preferred in excess of degree requirements
  • Requires minimum 5 years of experience in an information technology field, including experience with application support and operations
  • Experience with some of the following is preferred: Apache, JBOSS, Java, TIBCO, Oracle (or other RDBMS), SQL queries, Single Sign On (SSO), LDAP, PKI, HTTPS, FTP, IIS, .NET, proficiency with networking concepts and protocols, scripting languages, UNIX/Linux, Windows Server, network load balancers, Informatica, AppWorx, Cognos, Splunk 


  • Bachelor's Degree : Computer Science or related field (Required) or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required 


  • ITIL Foundation (Preferred)
